Rolfing, is a gentle yet highly effective form of manual fascia release aiming to improve posture alignment, movement, and overall alignment in the body. A skilled Rolfer will be able to address your body relationship with gravity.
Rolfing is well recognized as an alternative and complementary approach of bodywork based on osteopathic manual therapies.
The Rolfing Ten Series™ is a systematic progression of interventions that will address deep-seated tension patterns stemming from old injuries, chronic pain, stress, or poor posture.
Many clients feel lighter, experienced less pain, have improved posture and become more aware of their movements or habits that may be contributing to pain.
Rolfing is also an excellent option of somatic therapy as it offers an option that addresses deep seated tension patterns related to trauma and can open one's self experience of their being in their bodies again. If you are currently working with a psychologist, it is important they know you are having Rolfing done as emotional trauma can be released from the body. These are typically experienced as “breakthrough” moments for many clients and are often powerfully healing.
Our approach is deeply rooted in a balanced blend of holistic concepts as well as current research from manual therapy, neuroscience, fascia science, sensory-motor integration, and exercise science. We focus on the concept of bio-tensegrity, which describes how muscle groups react together to support the body's posture in movement, or distort its framework and cause dysfunction resulting in pain. Rolfing is based on western medical sciences while heavily influenced by Ida Rolf's yoga practices.
Our model is comprehensive and differs greatly from physical therapy, chiropractic, orthopedic massage therapy, medical massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, or myofascial release and can be highly effective in pain management as Rolfing will focus on whole body integration a.k.a. whole body kinetics.
The general concepts in Rolfing will be familiar and adaptive to students who study yoga, Pilates, Alexander Method, Feldenkrais Method, martial arts, Kung fu, dance, gymnastics, Gyrotonics / Gyrokinesis, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, or other Mind-Body wellness centering exercises because it addresses the body's naturally fundamental relationship of moving in gravity.
Rolfing is fascia manipulation that works the wholeness of the fascial system. This is a continuous, intricate web of connective tissue that links every part of the body, from muscle to bone and organ to nerve. This vital tissue provides structural support, connects structures, aids hydration, supports immunity, facilitates movement, and is a key "organ of sensation."
We believe in a holistic therapy approach to Structural Integration. We go beyond the hands-on work of Rolfing by integrating complementary movement modalities that help retrain your body to move with ease and efficiency, fostering Whole Body Posture & Kinetic Integration, a vital part of the whole body integration process that further addresses muscle imbalances or muscle dysfunction.
Whole body health involves whole body movement for whole body integration.
Please do not call Rolfing massage. While easily confused with massage, Rolfing is a distinct professional bodywork system that uniquely addresses the body's structural relationship to gravity for lasting alignment and optimal function.
Clients report a genuine transformation: increased energy, better movement, and a deeper sense of ease and well-being in daily life. This enduring change profoundly enhances whole body wellness and strengthens the Whole Body connection. Research further confirms that Rolfing SI reduces chronic stress, measurably improves body structure, optimizes muscle use, and refines movement patterns.
What happens after Rolfing:
1. Movement Modalities:
2. Bodywork Modalities:
We are comfortable working with a wide range of clients and are capable of working with physicians, therapists, allied health practitioners, chiropractors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, naturopaths, and Acupuncturists in a manner that supports the traditional medical model while staying true to complementary health and alternative health.
Movement modalities such as these help to reteach muscle holding patterns to support the improved posture and alignment achieved during the Rolfing Ten Series and to maintain, or - in many cases, continue to process of integrating the body as a whole. Gravity is ever present after all, even after Rolfing.
Many clients say they feel lighter after each Rolfing session, have more energy, more relaxed, balanced, and aligned.
They are often surprised how gentle Rolfing actually is and how effective it is at managing pain.
The number one thing clients say is that,
"Rolfing works!"
Rolfing is a completely different and unique approach to bodywork and is the only system that works to integrate the body as a whole.
Transform your body and feel the difference.
